HPE iLO Not Allowing Web Login

I manage a few HPE MicroServer Gen10 v2 servers with the iLO Enablement Package installed. Once while setting up a new server, I was suddenly no longer able to log in to the iLO’s web UI. It took the login request, blanked out the username and password, disabled the Log In button, and froze. However, the iLO Windows app was working fine, so I know the iLO was functioning.

This web login issue happened from both Chrome and Firefox on my main management workstation. Private/Incognito didn’t help. Clearing cookies didn’t help. Factory reset of iLO didn’t help. Updating iLO firmware from 2.96 to 2.97 didn’t help. Malwarebytes Browser Guard isn’t blocking anything.

But Edge works, and Chrome works from other computers. So, not an iLO problem?

Then suddenly, I tried it again from Firefox on the main computer and it said “Session Expired” or something like that, then logged in. It’s like the iLO itself has a memory of sessions based on some browser identifier. And maybe the expiration got messed up. I wonder if there is a way to reset the sessions in the iLO.

In the meantime, if you can’t log in to the iLO from a your main computer and browsers, use a different computer or a browser you don’t otherwise use (Edge).

Update September 28, 2023

HPE Support pointed out this post about managing iLO sessions:

So if this happens again, once I get connected again from a different computer, check the Session List and see if some old session needs to be disconnected.

iLO Sessions

I also want to note for future reference that it may also be possibel to access the iLO web interface by using the iLO app to start Intelligent Provisioning at server boot. I noticed a square there for  iLO management. I’m not sure how much of the web UI is available there.
